CBRE raises CZK 1,350,000 to provide education for children in Sierra Leone

The Olympic Games in Petřínské Gardens provided the vital funds for a better future for children in Africa

Approximately 50 participants gathered together in Petřín Gardens to take part in the CBRE Summer Olympic Games. The registration fees raised a total of CZK 150,000, which will be multiplied by 9, due to a UK government scheme, to a total of CZK 1,350,000 and donated to the Plan International charity project supporting education for children, particularly girls, in Sierra Leone. CBRE participates in the project across EMEA and the goal is to improve the chances of the children for a better life in the African country.

CBRE has committed itself to raising a minimum of EUR 850,000 (CZK 23,460,000) by means of contributions of its companies and employees. The amount raised will be used for education opportunity grants, refurbishing school buildings, training teachers and assistants, supporting disabled children and improving the quality of education at 780 schools in five districts in Sierra Leone. CBRE Czech Republic took part in this charity effort on 3rd September and supported the project by preparing an active afternoon full of Olympic sports activities for CBRE’s business partners and employees.

“CBRE takes the fight against poverty very seriously and therefore the partnership with Plan International is of key importance in terms of our social responsibility. The Olympic idea represents integration and peace, equality of rights without any prejudice and democracy, which are values that we regard as binding for our company. We are glad that we’ve succeeded in attracting so many people who came to support the project by their sporting achievements and good will,” said Richard Curran, Managing Director, CBRE.

The partnership with the humanitarian organization Plan International was concluded in March this year and will last three years. Across EMEA, CBRE has so far succeeded in raising EUR 100,000 (CZK 2,760,000). The CBRE Summer Olympics was the first fundraiser on behalf of the Czech office. Other fundraising events are in the pipeline: Tomáš Jandík, Associate Director in the Czech Capital Markets team, is taking part in the EMEA Cross Border Charity Challenge Marathon 2014 in Frankfurt in October. CBRE has also planned a so-called “C-Blue Day” for 10th December where all CBRE employees will have the opportunity to support the Plan International initiative.
